This subject has become dear to me, as daily I see how many children and adults are unable to truly enjoy the water due to fears. As a result, I've invested resources of time, money and effort combing the internet for information, attending clinics and meeting with the few specialists that have committed thier lives to help new swimmers find calm in the water. There is an answer ! The secret to your success is not ignoring the fear and anxiety, but rather acknolwledging it. There is no way for you to find your comfort in the water by continually pushing yourself into discomfort. The way to learn to be calm in shallow and deep water is to learning to stay calm in every step of your learning process - from there you are able to learn skills and then move through the water with ease and comfort. The fearful or anxious student needs a patient guide to allow them to experience the water in a safe and nurturing environment The instructor-guide must break down each skill in the teaching progressions into much smaller increments than usual and proceed slow enough that the swimmer remains calm and in control - always! We never ask you do anything that will make you feel anxious or push you beyond what you feel comfortable in doing. Let us help you as we've helped others! |
