| Homework Tips 1 Homework helps to get you or your child's swimming progress. It gives both parents and swimmers a better understanding of the skills needed to be mastered and reinforces the learning of the body positions and movements needed in the water. Review and practice when ever possible! All Levels Bathing Cap On (All levels) Practice putting on bathing cap. The goal is to teach the swimmer do this unassisted and have the bathing cap become as essential as the bathing suit! Goggles On (All levels) Practice putting on goggles. The goal is to teach the swimmer do this unassisted and have the bathing cap become as essential as the bathing suit! Adjustments may need to be done by the parents. Flutter Kicking (All levels) Child lies on bed with legs off the side. Concentrates on keeping legs straight. Emphasize kick from hip, floppy ankles. Streamline "zoomer" Position (All Levels) Hand Sandwich - Place one palm over the back of the other hand, lock with top thumb. Prone Streamlined position - Laying on a bed, one ones stomack, hold arms straight over ead, ears squeezed and thumb locked. Back Streamilined position -Laying on ones back, with a smallish pillow under the small of the back, have the child place hands over-head, one hand on top of the other, and s-t-r-e-t-c-h. Special attention to chin tucked down to chest and arms behind the ears. Streamlining is a foundation skill to swimming efficiently. Rollovers: Back-to-Front-to-Back (All Levels) Assume the "zoomer" position and roll on front, then back, holding the long streamline position the entire time. Rollover using stomach and legs only. Pointed Toes & Hooked (All levels) Have the child point their toes at objects while sitting, then make circles drawings in the air using their pointed toes. Point the toes and hold for 3 seconds, flex toes back toward shins and hold for 3 seconds, repeat 10 times. |
