Triathlon Preparation (Newbees)
As a Triathlete, you probably understand the need to conserve your energy and legs during the swimming phase. If not, you should consider it. As the triathlete with the best balance, lowest stroke count and least frantic kick will be the most refreshed swimmer leaving the water for the transition to the bike, having covered the required swim distance with the most efficient stroke and having used the least energy. The key is to focus on decreasing resistance rather than "swimming hard". When one does that speed, grace and efficiency comes naturally!
If you are taking over 20 strokes to cover 25 yards (one length of a short course pool), find yourself out of breath while swimming, developing shoulder problems or using an aggessive kick while swimming - more fliud, efficient and graceful swimming can be yours quickly.
Are you training properly ? (Advanced)
You need to develop speed, power and endurance ... is your training helping develop these areas? Are you building your swimming base like you do with your running or cycling base? Are you hoping the masters workout you attended is making the necessary changes in your body to prepare for stellar swims?
Most triathletes are poorly prepared for their swim legs, as 90% of all masters workouts are a mixed bag of stress and probably not insync with YOUR periodization schedule. Now that you've been in the competitive arena - you know that training must be specific and not general.
Join me and the other triathletes in gaining the skills, knowledge and conditioning to make your next season one of your best !
